Still confused with the Pythagorean formula .. Well, in this article we will give you four examples about Pythagoras... Enjoy :)
Pythagorean formula Pythagorean formula is the formula used to find the long side in a right triangle. The inventor of this formula is one of the Greek mathematician named Pythagoras.
Consider the following picture:
Side by side AB is also called c, for dealing with the angle C. The BC is also called a side, because dealing with the angle A. The side AC is also called the side b, because dealing with the angle B.
The formula to find the length of the right triangle using the Pythagorean formula is as follows:
AB = square of the square of the square of the AC + BC. or AB2 = AC2 + BC2 The formula to find the length of the base are: a2 = c 2 - b 2 The formula to find the side that is: b2 = c 2 - a 2
Example:
1). What is the length of side AB in the figure below?
Given: BC = 8cm, AC = 6cm. Asked: AB =? Answer: AB2 = AC2 + BC2 = 62 + 82 = 36 + 64 = 100AB = √ 100 = 10 So the length of the AB is 10cm.
2). What is the length of side b in the picture below?
Given: a = 12cm, b = 13cm. Asked b =? Answer: Due to the length of the b asked, then apply the formula: b2 = c2 - a2 = 132-122 = 169-144 = 25b = √ 25 = 5cm
3). What is the length of a side in the picture below?
Given: c = 17cm, b = 8cm. Asked a =? Answer: Because the question is the length of side a, then apply the formula: a2 = c2 - b2 = 172-82 = 289-64 = 225 a = √ 225 = 15 cm
4). A rectangle with 24cm long and 7cm wide. What is the length of the diagonal or the AC of awake?
Answer:AC2 = AB2 + BC2 = 72 + 242 = 49 + 576AC = √ 625 = 25cm
